Prof. Shiva Lal Bhusal, the former Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, was born on June 10, 1966, in Bhumekasthan Municipality -1 of Arghakhanchi District, Lumbini Province of Nepal. Prof. Bhusal is a Development Economist. He has completed his Master's and PhD Degree in Economics (2011) from Tribhuvan University. As a Professor of economics, he has worked for the last 30 years in different universities and academic and research institutions in Nepal as a research and economic expert. Besides, he has also served in different government and non-government agencies in various capacities.

He has already published half a dozen books. Among these – “Common Property Resource Economics: A missing issue of development debate in Nepal”, “Butwal a Promising Town in Western Terai” and “Research in Social Sciences (methodologies and economics)” are research and policy-based works. He has conducted different research works and published several articles in national and international journals. His works explore Eastern philosophy and practices, Common property resources and their use, development disparities and displacement, Orphan and street children, and Indigenous knowledge and their implications on sustainable development in Nepal.  He received University Special Awards in 1965 and Biddhya Bhusan “Ka” from the First President of the Federal Republic of Nepal.

He has completed the assigned responsibility as president of Tribhuvan University Teachers Association (TUTA), Butwal Multiple Campus Unit, founder principal of Annapurna Model College, Head of the Department of Economics, Butwal Multiple Campus, and Director of Trans Himalaya Research Center. He was the former Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who had the accountability to look at and manage overall academic and research activities under this largest faculty covering 26 central departments and dozens of master's and PhD programs. He has worked as the Member Secretary of the Academic Council of TU, and a Board Member of the Controller of Examination of TU. He has participated in and led several international meetings and conferences as a professor, a university authority, as well as a country representative.

Having the overall experience of Vice-Chancellor as a leader of the University, Prof. Bhusal has completed his tenure as the Rector of Tribhuvan University, which looks at overall academic, research, and extra-curricular activities. Besides, he was the chair of the Research Development and Coordination Council with the role and responsibility of managing, coordinating, and integrating all the research activities that cover all Campuses, Central Departments, Departments and Programs, Dean Offices, and Research Centers as the academic Apex of the Tribhuvan University.
