Sanjaya Acharya is the Professor of Economics at Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. Previously, he worked as the Visiting Professor of Economics at Ritsumeikan University, Shiga, Japan. He is also a visiting fellow at Southasia Institute for Advanced Studies, and Centre for Green Economy Development, Kathmandu. Sanjaya also led several research projects at New ERA, Kathmandu, from 1995 to 2011, along with several independent consulting assignments. He holds a Master’s degree in Development Economics from International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Netherlands, and two doctorate degrees – one from Hokkaido University, Japan, and another from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He received the European Association for Comparative Economics Society (EACES) bi-annual best doctoral dissertation award for the years 2006-2007. He is the author of the book “Pro-poor Growth and Liberalization in Developing Economies” published by Routledge in 2012. Moreover, he has authored more than two dozens of articles published in high level peer-reviewed international journals, including Economic Systems, Economic Modelling, Journal of Policy Modelling, Journal of Economic Policy Reforms, European Journal of Development Research, Socio-economic Planning Sciences, Economic Alternatives, Economies, Lex Localis, Journal of International Development, etc. He is the reviewer of many international journals, worked as the Associate Editor of Modern Economy and Management published from Hong Kong, and currently working as the Editor-in-chief of Indian Journal of Applied Economics and Business and Indian Journal of Applied Business and Economic Research both published from ARF India, and Economic Journal of Nepal published from the Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University. Sanjaya possesses a wide range of experience of providing consulting/advisory services in various development projects of UN organisations, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, GIZ, JICA and others. His specialisation is in public financial management and climate financing, harmonisation between monetary and fiscal policies, economic reforms and transformation in developing countries and their impacts on the livelihood of the poor people.
