Dr. Raut is an Associate Professor of Economics at Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University, teaching empirical development economics at the graduate and postgraduate levels. He is a development economist specializing in evidence-based research to address critical challenges in developing countries. His work focuses on rigorously evaluating the impact of policy interventions through experimental and quasi-experimental methods. His research aims to provide actionable insights to policymakers and stakeholders on programs and projects that can effectively improve people's lives in developing economies. His research collaborations have included esteemed institutions such as ETH Zurich, Cornell University, and the University of Tokyo, focusing on designing and evaluating cost-effective interventions in sectors like health, energy, environment, and education. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as World Development, Forest Policy and Economics, and Progress in Disaster Science among others. He also actively contributes to the academic community by peer-reviewing articles in renowned journals like Agricultural Economics, Energy Research and Social Science, Journal of Development Studies, and PLOS ONE among others. He has also secured various competitive research grants from SANDEE-ICIMOD, Swiss National Science Foundation, Japan Society for Promotion of Science, Tribhuvan University and University Grants Commission. His professional experience includes senior roles as a researcher, data analyst, and economist with organizations such as the World Bank, UNDP, and various government agencies in Nepal. He holds a MA and Ph.D. in Development Economics (Straight 5 out of 5) from the National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies and a Master's (First Class First-Gold Medal) and MPhil degree in Economics (First Class first) from Tribhuvan University. He also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Tokyo.
