Prof. Dr. Tara Prasad Bhusal is a Professor of Economics at the Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. With over three decades of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience, he specializes in econometrics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, corruption studies, public finance, political economy, and governance. He has played a key role in policy research, curriculum development, and examination reforms, serving as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University (2019–2024).

Dr. Bhusal earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Tribhuvan University in 2022. His academic journey includes an MA in Economics (1992) and a BA in Mathematics & Economics (1989) from Tribhuvan University. His strong quantitative background allows him to specialize in applied econometrics, fiscal policy analysis, economic forecasting, and corruption studies.

Dr. Bhusal has been actively involved in policy-oriented research in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Transparency International, Tax and Fiscal Justice Asia (TAFJA), Public Services International (PSI), ActionAid Nepal, and Policy Research Institute (PRI), Nepal. His research covers tax justice, illicit financial flows, governance, trade policies, and media monitoring.

In 2024, he led a study on Corporate Taxation and Tax Justice in Nepal, supported by Public Services International (PSI), France. He also conducted research on Local Tax Reform in Bagnaskali Rural Municipality, Nepal (2022) in partnership with ActionAid Nepal. His work on Illicit Financial Flows in Nepal was part of a collaborative effort with TAFJA (2019).

Dr. Bhusal has contributed extensively to governance, anti-corruption, and media studies. He was involved in Media Monitoring in the 2013 Constituent Assembly (CA) Election, conducted by Nepal Press Institute (NPI) and UNDP Nepal, analyzing media transparency and political communication during elections. He also conducted Content Analysis of Newspapers During Elections in collaboration with the Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Tribhuvan University (2013).

As a faculty member, Dr. Bhusal has played a key role in academic administration. He served as Member Secretary of the Board of Examination, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (2019–2024), leading the digitization of examination processes, policy reforms, and transparency initiatives.

Dr. Bhusal has authored several books on economics and econometrics, including Mathematical Economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Basic Econometrics, and Mathematics for Economics (2025). His research papers have been published in peer-reviewed national and international journals, covering themes such as economic growth, corruption, trade, financial regulation, and illicit financial flows.

Beyond academia, Dr. Bhusal has worked as an expert for UGC Nepal, an economic consultant for organizations such as Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, UNDP, Policy Research Institute (PRI), Nepal, and Nepal Press Institute, contributing to economic policy development, regulatory analysis, and institutional reforms.

With his extensive experience in teaching, research, governance, and media economics, Dr. Bhusal remains committed to advancing economic education, public policy research, media transparency, and institutional capacity-building in Nepal.
